The orphanage is situated in Duncan Village, nestled amid the hundreds of thousands of rusting corrugated iron shacks, which house some of the poorest people in the Eastern Cape. The It is a sad fact that HIV is highly prevalent, and that when parents die, their children are more than often, left orphaned. With around 200,000 people already packed into as little as 460 hectares, and as many as 600 people sharing one communal toilet (due to the lack of infrastructure), the area is rapidly expanding, despite the fact that most of the people here are unskilled and live in extreme dire poverty. The orphanage is a life-line to those children who are fortunate enough to find their way into the arms of Pamela and Violet who have given up their home to house these children.
We really want to help expand the tiny house which acts as the orphanage at present. We have just replaced the old shack nursery with a bespoke brick building and are currently expanding the main house. The house has a small lounge, a bedroom, an office and a tiny kitchen from which some 150 children are fed daily, seven days a week. All the floors of the rooms (bar the kitchen) are covered every night with small plastic-coated sleeping mats, on which each small child sleeps under a blanket. The older ones attend local schools hoping to secure a future through education. Their glowing school reports are an inspiration and despite their disadvantaged situation they have all excelled in the loving environment that is provided by Violet and Pamela. If you know of any scholarships for the children, then please get in contact. The children are all happy, and well cared for and loved - despite many suffering from the effects of HIV and associated illnesses. All made worse by poor diet and tough living conditions of course. If you would like to help by sending clothes, shoes, educational toys, in fact anything you think would help - or – you wish to make a financial contribution, then please contact them directly or email us for their details. Every single thing will be put to more than good use. We have found the most effective way of sending donations is by sending postal orders made out directly to them. However, you can also send money through the electronic banking system to their Trust account.

The children are currently preparing for exams which we wish them well for. It is s stressful time for them and they work very hard at their studies. They could do with a few more maths sets and stationary..
Angie and Alan, painted, sewed the curtains and tiled the newly built crèche which is now open, much to the delight of the younger children. It was certainly a complete labour of love and kindness - it is filled with a sense of joy!
Cornish hero Tim is working hard, enjoying his time at the orphanage and sends his love to all.
Thanks to Anne and her amazing family, along with my Dad, we were able to buy a whole months shopping, which was desperately needed as they had run out of even sugar. If you want to contribute to the shopping we can now do this by standing order thanks to Alan and Angie who have done so much to help the children.
